Saphenous Nerve in the Distal Adductor Canal: Anatomic Position of the Nerve in Relation to the Superficial Femoral Artery

چکیده

Wake Forest School of Medicine 73 Background: For ultrasound-guided saphenous nerve blockade within the adductor canal, the location of the saphenous nerve relative to the superficial femoral artery may be important for continuous blockade or low-volume, diagnostic block. Currently, there are inconsistencies in the literature and anatomy textbooks as to the anatomic relationship of these two structures in the distal adductor canal. Using anatomical position to characterize structural relationships, the saphenous nerve has been described or depicted as being either anterior or posterior to the artery, depending on the reference. The objective was to determine the location of the saphenous nerve relative to the superficial femoral artery in the distal adductor canal.

Saphenous and Infrapatellar Nerves at the Adductor Canal: Anatomy and Implications in Regional Anesthesia.

Conflicting data exist regarding the anatomical relationship of the saphenous and infrapatellar nerves at the adductor canal and the location of the superior foramen of the canal. Therefore, the authors performed a cadaveric study to detail the relationship and course of the saphenous and infrapatellar nerves and the level of the superior foramen of the canal. The adductor canal and subsartoria...

Saphenous neuralgia of the knee.

The saphenous nerve is the longest branch of the femoral nerve and is a purely sensory nerve. It arises from the 3rd and 4th lumbar roots. As mentioned it is an exclusively sensory. It supplies the medial articulation of the knee and cutaneous sensation of the medial aspect of the knee, leg and ankle. The nerve travels in close proximity to the femoral vessels subsartorial. This hunter canal is...

Aim and Background: This study aimed to determine the efficacy of femoral nerve block in adductor canal and comparison it with the classical method of femoral nerve block in terms of pain relief after elective surgery of the knee. Materials and Methods: In this study clinical trial study, 92 patients who were candidate for knee arthroscopy in Rasool Akram hospital during 2014- 2015 were eva...

Anatomic basis to the ultrasound-guided approach for saphenous nerve blockade.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Successful blockade of the saphenous nerve using surface landmarks can be challenging. We evaluated the anatomic basis of performing a saphenous nerve block with ultrasound (US) using its relationship to the saphenous branch of descending genicular artery, sartorius muscle, and the adductor hiatus as defined by cadaveric measurements. METHODS Using a total of 9 cadav...

Variation in median nerve nutritional artery at the distal end of forearm: case report

Background: The median nerve is one of the most important branches of the brachial plexus. Due to the role of the median nerve in sensory and motor innervation of the forearm and hand in the upper limbs, its blood supply is very important. Awareness of variations in the blood supply pattern to this nerve reduces the incidence of necrosis and ischemia of the nerve during surgical and diagnostic ...
